February 10, as part of our Gathering: the music of the Underground Railroad featuring our Gathering Guest, Rev. Catherine Short

Many of the songs of the era that came to be designated “spirituals” were plenty spiritual and also brilliantly contained code words that instructed the slaves seeking freedom where to go or what to do; for example, “Wade in the Water,” meant to do just that!

Catherine Short is well versed in Underground Railroad history. On February 10 she will also be our soloist.
